Kiesha White

I am an artist, poet and songwriter. In my visual art colors are important. I like to listen to water. I like to relax. Art helps me with stress. Waterfalls, sunlight, rainbows; I like them all. I made a quilt with flowers and big colors.

I like cheetahs. They live in the grass and run fast. I like cheetah prints in fabric, all the colors.

My family and friends are important to me and my work. Music is also special. A big influence on my work is Aretha Franklin, soul and jazz music and Raven-Symoné.

I also like movies. My favorite movie is Romeo and Juliet. I like Shakespeare’s poetry. I like the way they look, I like the way they talk and the clothes they wear.

I’m an artist who likes to collaborate. At NIAD I chose to work with Halisi Noel-Johnson. We are working on poems together. I like the way she writes; she inspires me. Teachers also inspire me at NIAD. I like to work on my sewing with Kieren Dutcher. NIAD is important to me.
