Gallery Reception // Ceramics Workshop // Ceramics Studio Sale

Saturday September 10

1 to 4:00pm

NIAD Art Center

The NIAD community gathers to celebrate artists in the September exhibition with refreshments, music, ceramics for sale, and a ceramics workshop for participants of all skill levels led by NIAD ceramics facilitators Emma Spertus and Steen Kjorlie in the NIAD ceramics studio:

“Try your own hand at making ceramic whales or pencil holders. Short technical demonstrations will be available to those who would like them. We will have clay and underglaze available, so you can make and decorate your piece in one sitting. You will be able to pick up the fired work at the next month’s gallery reception. No experience necessary.”

Event Accessibility: There are no stairs to enter the NIAD Art Center building. The building is one level. The sidewalk has multiple curb cut-outs and is wide enough for a wheelchair. The building does not have automatic doors. Our restrooms are accessible to people using mobility devices. We do not have gender neutral restrooms.

NIAD Gallery Exhibition // Day Or Night It Looks Like Night, organized by Liliana Herrera

About the exhibition

“Day Or Night It Looks Like Night” is a grouping of works, which, at their core embody a quiet strength and serve as testaments to an abstract, ambiguous world—one filled with moments of gloom, but also of hope and growth.

NIAD Annex Exhibition // Whales and Pencil Holders organized by Emma Spertus

About the exhibition

When Peter Harris is asked which of his ceramic pieces is his favorite, he says with conviction, “I love all of them.” This show is a celebration of “all of them.” The title is drawn from Michael Starofsky’s beautiful series of whale sculptures and pencil holders. Several of these artists are new to working in ceramics, and they are already establishing new forms and vibrant styles. Meanwhile, experienced NIAD ceramicists showcase their newest sculptures and functional ware. Whales and Pencil Holders presents this broad spectrum of subjects and inspiration—enjoy them all.
